My knitting Genie's been busy again this week. As I've mentioned before my knitting Genie is a dab hand at getting me what I need, not so much at getting me what I want - unfortunately!
Anyway, a lady in my knitting group is having trouble hand knitting so I said I'd bring in my knitting looms for her to give loom knitting a go. The only problem was I didn't have any super chunky yarn..... or the loom hook come to think of it! Hooks are cheap, super chunky yarn is not! so you can imagine my delight at finding two balls of Lion Brand Ease Thick and Quick yarn just waiting to be purchased for £1 a ball in a charity shop which is notoriously rubbish and expensive to boot!

Meaning: "a fundamental change in approach or underlying assumptions"
Watch the video - it will make you think! If you're a knitter or wannabe knitter then it helps to know how the body , and in particular how the hands work.
Watch the videos to find out more... It's only a matter of time before you come across the knitting abbreviation w&t, also known as 'wrap and turn', but what is it and how do you do it?
Watch clay turn to metal right before your eyes! Granted, not every clay can miraculously turn to metal but there is a type that can. Watch the videos below to find out more.
I'm off to the scrap bank this morning. The scrap bank is where organisations can drop off their scrap and people can collect it for free. You never know what you're going to find! On occassion I've found cones of yarn and knitting magazines, so I have my fingers crossed.
I'm not sure if these are fashionable facts about knitting, more 10 interesting facts . Watch the video to decide for yourself.
![]() This is the machine I'm currently infatuated with. The Toyota KS901 is one of the last knitting machines Toyota made and reputedly one of the best. She's a 24 stitch punchcard machine which means you can insert a special punchcard with a pattern up to 24 stitches wide and she'll do all the patterning for you. She can also do knit Fair Isle designs (2 colour patterns per line of knitting), Motifs, Lace with an attachment, Slip Stitch patterns and Tuck Stitch patterns and create a fabric with stockinette stitch on both sides! - she's very clever like that. The only downside I've found to the Toyota KS901 is that it's not as easy to find parts and resources for her as the other Japanese Knitting machines. The easiet and cheapest option is usually to buy a second machine to use for spares. They're still relatively cheap to pick up on various second hand sites and come up for sale on a regular basis. Watch the video below to see the Toyota KS901 in action... I came across this Mastercrafts series today. I'm shocked to discover that Knitting isn't one of the Mastercrafts covered. I'll post the rest of the series as I watch them.
Wow, after watching the video below about what would happen to the world if humans disappeared, it's evident that stone is one of the most resilient material we have in our arsenal.
I think I'll go back to basics and get my computer backups cast on to stone tablets.......... If only! The video led me to wonder what exactly stone is and how exactly we've been crafting with it. Most importantly, it would be nice to figure out why the heck we stopped. There's not much more I can do to my Happy little Critter this evening as I need to buy stuffing. I may end up using beads instead as my stuffing skills are non existent - lumpy and bumpy all the way! It will give her a more Beanine Baby feel but Beanie Baby feel is good.
I was out and about on one of my Charity shop crawls today when I came across a commerative print by Rachel Whiteread. I like the print but had never heard of the artist so I thought I'd look her up.
Not too sure of your times table? Use the quick reference multiplication table inside......
Another potential knitting project for our beginner knitters. I may even use the pattern to make a Youtube video if my nephew will be kind enough to do a bit of filming for me.
The pattern is available free at FreeKnitting.com. You have to register to download the pattern but it's well worth the (minimal) effort. I stumbled across this rope tying video and it got me thinking, could this be used as a sewn cast on? I haven't tried it yet and doubt if it would become my everyday method of casting on but it will be fun to give it a try - once! sitting there sewing on a cast on instead of using the long tail method which is my cast on of choice (unless a knitting pattern instructs me otherwise) really isn't going to happen any time soon! But you can never have too much knowledge - knowledge is good!
I stumbled across the crocheted version of the knitted fingerless gloves I'm hoping to show my beginners knitters how to make. I've promised to give a crochet lesson sometime in the very near future so this will probably be our first project.
![]() I want to make up a sample of these gloves as I think this will be the perfect pattern to teach my beginner hand knitting students how to: Rib Knit In The Round Work Straight on Circular Knitting Needles The original pattern calls for the use of Double Pointed Needles; personally I'm not a fan of them so I'm going to rewrite the original pattern so that the group can practice the magic loop method. I was out and about today hoping to find some boxing day bargains. It didn't take long t discover there wasn't a bargain to be had in sight within my vicinity, so I decided to have a browse around my local TK Maxx which has bargains all year round. For those who don't know, TK Maxx is a designer discount shop that sells, clothes, accessories, toiletries etc.
