There are times when I want to get things done .....fast!, usually when the knitting pattern calls for long stretches of stockinette (or garter) stitch, which is where speed knitting comes in. If you're going to learn how to speed knit then why not learn from the fastest knitter(s) in the world? I was intrigued to learn that the fastest knitter in the world is actually a thrower ie she holds her yarn in her right hand. I always thought continental knitting, where you hold the yarn in the left hand was the fastest way to knit but it's good to be proved wrong. I learnt how to improve my continental knitting speed by watching Miriam Tegels the current Guiness Book Of Records fastest knitter. I eventually settled on a speed that is comfortable for me which Miriam, I'm sure, will be pleased to hear that it's no where near her world record. I'm yet to conquer anything beyond a 'comfortable pace' using the throwing method but practice makes perfect. Learn how to improve your own continental knitting speed by watching the video below. With a record of 262 stiches in 3 minutes, use the metronome below to see how fast you'd need to knit to come anywhere near the fastest knitter in the world!
