The Long Tail Cast On is a great cast on to know if you need to cast on quickly and you have a lot of stitches to cast on. You can estimate how long the tail needs to be by casting on approx. 10 stitches, and then unravelling the stitches to find out how much yarn you have used. If you need to cast on 60 stitches make the tail 6 times this length, if you need to cast on 80 stitches make the tail 8 times the length. If you have a number that's not divisble by 10 then it is best to round the stitches up rather than rounding it down - it is best to have too much of a tail than not enough. Alternatively you can create a tail by using two separate balls of yarn, or pulling from both ends of a single ball of yarn. Watch the video below to find out more..... The video below explains how to determine how long of a tail you will need and how to improve your long tail cast on.
